Gov Masari commissions 2 fire fighting trucks donated by FG
Governor Aminu Bello Masari says President Muhammadu Buhari deserves real commendation for the supply of ninety six (96) fire fighting trucks to the federal fire service.
Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari was speaking shortly before launching two fire fighting trucks brought for Daura and the Federal Fire Service Training School Kankia by the Controller General of the Service Dr Liman Alhaji Ibrahim at Government House, Katsina.
The Governor explained that had it been that President Muhammadu Buhari met resources like his predecessors, the upgrading and expansion of the Federal Fire Service and other agencies would have long been completed.
He observed that Nigerians are not fully aware of the role of the fire service, limiting the duties to fire fighting but it entails disaster management in general.
The Governor commended the Controller General for fulfilling the pledge during his earlier visit to Katsina to supply three fire fighting trucks.
Now that he had supplied two of the trucks, Governor Aminu Masari said Katsina state Government will request two additional trucks apart from the Controller’s pledge.
He informed the Controller General that Funtua as a commercial nerve center of the State and being almost 200 kilometers away from Katsina and 100 kilometers away from Zaria needs the supply of fire fighting trucks, adding that it needs urgent response in times of emergencies.
Alhaji Aminu Masari promised that the State government will do whatever it takes to make the presence of the federal fire service in the state to be as comfortable as possible.
On the request to take over the zonal office of the state Fire service in Daura, Governor Masari assured that government would renovate the structures there to turn it in to a federal fire service center.
He thanked the management of the federal fire service for locating a Fire Service Training institution in Kankia for the North West Zone, stressing that it will increase opportunities and help economic activities in Kankia.
Earlier, the controller General of the federal fire service, Dr Liman Alhaji Ibrahim told Governor Masari that he had previously visited the state as part of the effort to establish a fire service training institution in Kankia.
Dr Ibrahim Liman said he is now in Katsina to fulfill the pledge he made during the earlier visit to supply fire fighting trucks to the state, stressing that of the two trucks brought, one will be stationed in Daura, while the other will be in the training institution in Kankia.
He requested the names of the 60 personnel recruited to be sent to training institution for training free of charge.
Also speaking, the state commissioner of information, culture and Home Affairs, Alhaji Abdulkareem Yahaya Sirika used the visit to announce to visitors on the effort made by Katsina state government to upgrade the state fire service.
Such efforts, he said includes the establishment of 3 number fire fighting offices in Katsina metropolis, procurement of 3 number fire fighting trucks and recruitment of 60 personnel for the state fire service.
