Senate Committee chairman Distinguished Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita, at the commencement of the meeting delightfully welcome all members of the committee and heads of the institutions present, admitting that he was pleased to host them all.

Senator Kaita, told the gathering the idea behind the meeting was to hear from them, the details of the prior budgetary allocations, expenditure in their respective institutions and listen to their challenges as well as their yearnings and aspirations regarding the 2022 fiscal year with a view to achieving a better result.

According to Kaita ‘’we in the 9th Assembly are working assiduously to come up with policy documents that would address some of the challenges hampering the growth of the sector’’. He also tasked the institutions managers on the need to improve their Internally generated revenue sourcing and cautioned them against reckless spending of the IGR.

In his contributions, Distinguished Senator Sunny Onor, vice chairman of the committee, charged the Rectors on prudent financial management, as the nation still grapple with unprecedented economic challenges. Emphasizing that in 2022 fiscal year, reckless spending, improper management of the scarce resources will not be condone.

In his submission, Honorable Aminu Suleiman Goro, Chairman House Committee on Tertiary Institutions said, the paltry sum being appropriated and released to the education sector is indeed, worrisome. He reaffirmed the assurance of the 9th Assembly to addressing the disturbing trend through an increased budgetary allocation to the sector.
