Relocating Federal Medical Centre Katsina to Daura

Copied From Bashir Sade

Honour the agreement reached of relocating Federal Medical Centre to Daura during a visit by Katsina State Elders Forum to Mr President and Honourable Minister of Health while FMC Katsina to be converted into Teaching Hospital of Umaru Musa Yar'adua University as approved.*Response to the Write up of one Uzairu Abdullahi Funtua that the FMC should be relocated to Funtua Zone.*

This piece shouldn’t be responded for, but for the reason of not unwittingly fanning the embers of irredentism and parochialism, but is being responded to in the interest of equity, fair comments and rights of reply as is equitable to right to fair expression. The Author’s view that it is an ‘inhuman’ decision to site the FMC Project at Daura smacks of lack of consideration that people of Daura are Nigerians and citizens of Katsina State worthy of enjoying or benefiting from or of anything to improve or impact on their lives. To the writer people of Daura are not even ‘human’ enough to enjoy any projects. The writer ought to know that on the basis of equity which he cites, People of Daura as bonafide citizens of Katsina State and Nigeria have rights and privileges to enjoy projects deemed appropriate to any citizen of Nigeria.
As for the example of siting the Airforce specialist hospital, the writer ought to know that the hospital is no more than a Cottage Hospital to meet the special needs of the Armed Forces stationed at Forward Bases in the Frontier serving and depending the Nigerian Nation, given in extension security to the writer to write his jaundiced and primitive sectarian piece in the name of an appeal. As a Cottage Hospital it’s services is therefore limited, first to the Officers and Men and the families of those in Service in the Area and secondly as a collateral advantage serving the immediate communities it is situated. Even if not a Health Facility, what ever facility it is, should rightly benefit its surrounding communities. Banks whose primary purpose is to make profit, have what they call CSR- Corporate Social Responsibility-serving those it is within its areas and its customers.
The people of Daura are peace loving, social And accommodative- is why we Have never begrudge or envy any section or Zone for any project or appointments accorded to them. And Allah willing we would not descend or stoop to such lowly hitting below the belt.
As for the beneficiaries of the FMC when sited, the writer should know that part of accommodative nature of the people of Daura give room for other citizens from LGAs not within the Emirate to utilize its facilities, especially the General Hospital Daura, which houses specialist Doctors and sections. Let the writer enquire to know, that people from Mani, Dutsi, Mashi and to some extent Ingawa LGAs use the General Hospital Daura as a reference hospital. Therefore the siting or intention to locate the FMC at Daura is a continuation and extension of such public utilization of tertiary facilities. The writer ought to know that as a Tertiary health facility , nothing stops people from Funtua zone accessing the Facilities of the FMC Daura, as it wont of people seeking for health services going to any length, with our knowledge of people going as far as India Seeking Health Succor.
Therefore for us as citizens of Daura we take this vitriolic vituperation as an individual comment and not a general reflection of the People of Funtua Zone. Indeed it has saddened many a good people of the Emirate to read of this and know of it.
We commend the FG and the magnificent and magnanimous humane consideration of our indefatigable Governor, the Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari in consenting to the Federal Government’s decision, which we know is not ‘inhuman’ but humanely taken. We also continue to express our support and loyalty to Governor Aminu Bello Masari and attest With delight the many infrastructural projects and other developmental projects And interventions undertaken in the Emirate. We urge him and his Government to continue on this laudable, humane and all inclusive administration, which is the first of its kind since the creation of Katsina State. As to the writer and his cohorts, we urge that they become more roundly educated to accommodate progress and alternative decisions taken in the interest of the whole and not a minority few. Thank you and May God continue to Bless us all.
